Pittsford Schools Launches Student Athlete CPR Training Program

Pittsford Schools Launches Student Athlete CPR Training Program

Pittsford Central School District has launched a pilot program to train student athletes in CPR, First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use. Fourteen varsity athletes have already received training from some of Pittsford Schools’ Red Cross-certified coaches, and the pilot program will expand to winter and spring sports, with long-term plans to include JV and modified levels.

“This program is about more than athletics,” said Superintendent Michael Pero. “We are empowering our student athletes to be ready to act in an emergency, whether that’s on the field, at school, or in everyday life.”

Spectators will also have the opportunity to participate in emergency response training at some of Pittsford’s upcoming athletic events thanks to a partnership with Rochester Regional Health (RRH). Emergency training stations will be set up during the September 26 football game kicking off at 7 p.m. at Sutherland High School for anyone who would like to practice CPR and learn other emergency response skills.

The initiative is designed to prepare student athletes and spectators to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations, both during athletic events and in the broader community.

“The combination of student training and public outreach represents a significant step forward in community safety. By equipping young athletes with life-saving skills and offering hands-on learning to families and fans, the District and Rochester Regional Health are working together to create a safer environment for everyone involved in Pittsford athletics,” said Pero.
